You may have seen on our social channels that Aldrich & Co has moved London offices! We waved farewell to an incredible 30 years at Finsbury Circus and said ‘hello’ to Storey’s Gate, Westminster, which marks the first year of our third decade.

These milestones can feel like an achievement in themselves, and while we take the time to celebrate more than three decades of Aldrich & Co matching London’s finest talent to the best jobs in the City’s finance and banking sectors, we also realised how such a move is a learning opportunity for our whole team.

Celebrating our 30-Year milestone gave us the chance to reflect

Emily Aldrich, Managing Director of Aldrich & Co, established the business in the City of London. As a recruitment consultancy for finance and banking, City felt like the company’s natural home.

“Our clients were almost all within walking distance or a DLR ride away,” says Emily, “especially after the huge developments in Canary Wharf. But our offices in Salisbury House were large, and like many other business owners during the pandemic who transitioned to flexible working and work-from-home solutions, I came to see that so much desk space and meeting rooms simply weren’t necessary.”

The impending move got us to see the wider picture of our business

Plans were underway to find a better solution. Our team and our candidates still needed to meet regularly in person to discuss our new roles and the best candidates to fill them, and we had to maintain our geographic ties to our clients. While many companies in finance and banking are established in City, many of our private equity and asset management clients have offices in Westminster and Mayfair. Perhaps this was the perfect opportunity to move to that location.

We applied the advice we give to our candidates

“Change can be daunting,” says Emily, “but it is also so invigorating to try something new, and experiencing change is one of the best ways to keep our minds active.”

At Aldrich & Co, we often recommend to our candidates that a little element of risk in their decision making will ultimately help their career in the long term, as opposed to staying in the same role and expecting to keep moving up the corporate ladder.

How to know when it’s time to move

If you aren’t sure if a career move is right for you, ask yourself if you’re deciding not to move forward because you are telling yourself it is “too difficult”. Too many people head back to square one at this point.

Instead of doing this, identify what the difficulty actually is. Naming the problem gives you your best chances to find a way through it and onto the other side.

For us, we knew that we wanted a high-spec office, but our main concern was moving away from City. Looking at where our clients were based showed us that Westminster was another fantastic and less-explored option that nevertheless had excellent connections to Canary Wharf and City.

And we know that, in time, we will find even more benefits to being in Westminster. This is the wonderful result of taking a risk: the pleasant surprises along the way that you may never have experienced, had you stayed in one place.

Thank you especially to Time Partners, for inviting us to move into your impressive building at 10 Storey’s Gate!
