Sundays in London are made for Columbia Road Flower Market especially when the sun is out. It’s a cacophony of noise, chaos and colour with great independent shops shadowed for the day as the entire street is transformed with stalls selling whichever flowers are in season, herbs, plants and bulbs. Huge bunches of sunflowers in the summer, tulips in every colour imaginable in the spring and currently enormous dried hydrangea heads in bright pinks, blues and more subtle greens and purples – all for great prices.

Head there early in the morning from 7am to miss the crowds or after a lazy breakfast, pick up a coffee and a sausage roll or beautiful cake from Lily Vanilli before braving the masses weaving between stalls. It’s busy and noisy but totally worth it.

Alternatively, Columbia Road is great during the week: there are some really interesting shops and the restaurants in the area are brilliant.

Top tips: Sager and Wilde for a glass of wine can’t be beaten and the new Morito on Hackney Road is excellent!
