A quick weekend read to get totally lost in. A friend recommended this book to me this summer and it sat on my shelf for a few weeks after buying it, the cover is not that appealing and I was mid-way through last year’s Man Booker winner, the epic Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James. When I finally got round to reading it, I raced through and wondered why I’d not read it sooner!
The book is All My Friends Are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufmann, it’s only 108 pages and once you start you will not want to put it down. Tom’s friends are all superheroes and he has recently married the Perfectionist but at the wedding she is hypnotized by her ex, Hypno, to believe that Tom is invisible. The book follows Tom’s attempts to reverse the hypnosis as he gets closer to losing her forever.
It’s inventive and cliché free despite the subject matter and above all, is a funny, quirky look at love and friendship that will put a smile on your face. Read it!
