The festive atmosphere in Cowes, Isle of Wight is in full swing. The Round the Island Race (50 nautical miles) run by the #Island Sailing Club  (their 87th) in association with #Cloudy Bay (a winning formula in my book) looks set to produce a memorable day on the water for the 1,100 + race teams taking part.  And it is due to be a scorcher –  just right for the sun loving non-sailors but the sailors are all hoping for is a sea breeze to fill in for some spectacular sailing. The starting cannon will blast at 0600 and it will be a spectacular sea of colour and noise as the boats head downwind over the start line with their spinnakers hoisted!  We will be watching George and Edward Haynes– both from Team Aldrich on “Whisper” – a  Modern Classic “Spirit 46” Racing Yacht with a dark blue hull and fluorescent pink spinnaker!  Look out for them and cheer them on if you are in the vicinity and can spot them, we hope racing into the lead!
